Ordinarily, Cades Cove is a popular spot for motorists looking to take in the breathtaking views of the park from the comfort of their cars. However, every Wednesday, the loop road is closed to motor vehicles, giving cyclists and hikers unrestricted access to the area.

This means you can bike or hike through the 11-mile loop at your own pace, surrounded by the peace and tranquility of nature. Without the distraction of passing cars, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the park. You might even catch a glimpse of some of the area’s abundant wildlife, including white-tailed deer, black bears, and numerous bird species.

Getting to Cades Cove

Getting to Cades Cove is simple. If you’re coming from Gatlinburg, head southwest on US-441 S. After about 23 miles, turn right onto Laurel Creek Road. Follow this road for about 7 miles, and you’ll reach the entrance to the Cades Cove Loop.

There will be signage on Laurel Creek Road if the parking area for Cades Cove is full.

Parking Information

On Vehicle Free Wednesdays, parking is available near the entrance to Cades Cove. It’s recommended to arrive early, as parking spots can fill up quickly. From there, it’s just a short walk or bike ride to the start of the loop.

Remember, though, that while vehicles are not permitted on the loop road on Wednesdays, you’ll still need a vehicle to get to the parking area. There is no public transportation available to Cades Cove.
